What Are Scabies?
Many people don’t know what scabies are and to keep it simple, they are basically tiny mites that live in little holes that they have dug in your skin. There are scabies that can live in animals such as cats and dogs, and then there are other kinds that can live on humans. These are the types we are going to be talking about today.
How Did I Get Them?
If you discover that you have scabies, you got them from another human being. When they are above the skin, you can easily see them with the naked eye. They are about ½ mm long. Most the time, they are under the skin though, so just because you don’t see them, doesn’t mean you do not have them.
How Do I Know If I Have Scabies?
There are a few symptoms that you can look for in order to find out if you have scabies. Much of the time, you can have scabies for at least six weeks before you even notice anything at all. Throughout those six weeks, you can give them to other people without even realizing it. This is how they spread so quickly.
Mainly, you’ll start to realize you have rashes. They are typically in the form of small, blisters and are going to itch terribly. Keep in mind, just because you’re not itching, does not mean you don’t have them because this is common as well.
The best thing you can do to be diagnosed is talk to your doctor; they can help you get rid of scabies. If you are told you have them, be sure to tell anyone you’ve come into contact with within the last six weeks so they can talk to their doctor and stop from spreading them even more.
Getting Rid Of Scabies
The best way to get rid of scabies is to get a cream from your doctor. (Keep in mind there are creams that are only going to mask the problem, like Cortisone; so it’s important to talk to your doctor and make sure you’re using a cream that is going to get rid of the problem, not just mask it)
Look for creams that have either Sulfur or Permathrin; these are safe for you to use but are deadly to scabies.
