How To Get Rid Of Ladybug Infestation?

Lady Bugs can be great. They can help our gardens and keep other bug populations in check. However, when they produce too quickly; this can leave us with a problem. Sounds like it’s time to get rid of Lady Bug infestation.

Simple Fixes

I say ‘simple’, but this may be a pain for many of you reading this. The first thing you need to do is check every nook and cranny of your house. Starting with the windows and doors is always the best place because this is typically where the little buggers get in.

Don’t forget to check the siding of your house as well; especially the areas near vents or pipes. While it may not have been noticeable previously; there may be some sort of damage or easy-access areas for not only Lady Bugs to climb inside your home but other bugs as well.

What you do next depends on how comfortable you feel with repairing such things yourself. If you feel comfortable replacing a screen if need be; and things of that nature, go for it! If not, you can always hire someone else to do it and save yourself the hassle.

Many people set up traps of soapy water. Lady Bugs (and other bugs for that matter) will get stuck in the concoction and will not be able to swim out. Lady Bugs are attracted to light, so placing near lamps or other sources of light get rid of Lady Bug infestation much faster.

If you don’t want to have to worry about cleaning up the bodies of dead Lady Bugs, you can always set up a pheromone trap (These are most effective during the Fall and Spring during mating season).

A ‘Lady Bug friendly’ environment is created within the trap so the bugs crawl in and can be moved to another location unharmed. These pheromone lasts about three months and then will need to be replaced. There is sometimes a bit of a waiting game involved with this option as it’s hard to predict exactly when the Lady Bugs will be mating.

Getting The Professionals Involved

Sometimes the problem can become too much for us to bear and we may just want someone else to do the work for us. While this isn’t going to be cheap, you can go ahead and call an Exterminator.

If you have any children or pets, be sure to mention this beforehand and depending on where the bugs are; you may need to have them be elsewhere during the extermination.

No matter which method you are using, if toxins are involved; it’s important to do a thorough cleaning of the areas where the Lady Bugs were previously residing. You definitely do not want to inhale or ingest any of those toxins unnecessarily.
